Inflammation → Free Radicals → Oxidative Stress → DNA and Mitochondria Damage
EMF stands for Electromagnetic Field. The EMF's we are exposed to cause the constant formation of free radicals. These contribute greatly to damaging the DNA and Mitochondria of the cell, and thus a significant contributor to chronic disease. 50 years ago? Maybe not. Today? Absolutely.
Keeping it simple...Our body and cells are energy. Anything that produces energy can affect our cells. Some energy has a very positive effect, some negative. EMF's, and the amount we are now exposed to, is an energy that negatively affects our cells and should be strongly considered when discussing causes of ill health and chronic disease.
Anything electronic produces EMFs and emits electromagnetic radiation (EMR). All electronics that are plugged into your wall, use Wi-Fi, or in some way use the power grid, give off EMFs. Obviously, each device varies in the magnitude of radiation. But it doesn’t stop there…
In other words, we are surrounded by EMFs daily. This doesn’t even account for the cell phone towers around us, many of which are now hidden. It’s alarming, to say the least.
The debate for decades has been whether non-ionizing radiation can cause cancer or contribute to chronic disease. It is a well-researched fact that non-ionizing radiation causes free radical damage. While ionizing radiation directly affects DNA, non-ionizing radiation interferes with oxidative repair mechanisms, resulting in oxidative stress, damage to cellular components (including DNA), and disruption of cellular processes, leading to cancer and other chronic conditions.
The human body is very adaptive and has mechanisms in place to heal from this damage under perfect conditions. However, when our bodies are also dealing with expressed genes, overexposure to toxins, chronic infections, chronic stress, excessive sugar intake, gut issues, poor liver detoxification, imbalanced hormones, poor thyroid function, etc.—and we’re overexposed to EMFs—the body just can't adapt.
People before us have never been exposed to the magnitude of EMFs that we experience today. This is new territory, and we really don’t know what a safe range of exposure is. What we do know is less is better. The goal is to educate on the negative consequences, but also give you action steps to reduce your exposure.
We can never be perfect and EMF free, however, if we can understand this as it relates to overall health, and do the best we can with the the information we have, we can certainly reduce the exposure.
Even the environment is being affected, from bees to plants.
By creating distance between you and the source, you automatically reduce the intensity of EMFs. Cutting back on how often you use or are exposed to EMFs over time also reduces your overall exposure. Shielding yourself is another worthy option, especially with the rampant use of cell phones, laptops, and tablets today.
