EMF's

Contact Me

Remember the concept:

Inflammation → Free Radicals → Oxidative Stress → DNA and Mitochondria Damage

EMF stands for Electromagnetic Field. The EMF's we are exposed to cause the constant formation of free radicals. These contribute greatly to damaging the DNA and Mitochondria of the cell, and thus a significant contributor to chronic disease. 50 years ago? Maybe not. Today? Absolutely.

Keeping it simple...Our body and cells are energy. Anything that produces energy can affect our cells. Some energy has a very positive effect, some negative. EMF's, and the amount we are now exposed to,  is an energy that negatively affects our cells and should be strongly considered when discussing causes of ill health and chronic disease.

Anything electronic produces EMFs and emits electromagnetic radiation (EMR). All electronics that are plugged into your wall, use Wi-Fi, or in some way use the power grid, give off EMFs. Obviously, each device varies in the magnitude of radiation. But it doesn’t stop there…

There are two types of radiation: ionizing and non-ionizing.

  • Ionizing radiation moves at a high frequency with short wavelengths. This is the most dangerous type of radiation because it detaches electrons from atoms, damaging tissue and DNA through massive free radical production. Think X-rays, gamma rays, and even nuclear bombs.

  • Non-ionizing radiation is the opposite, with low frequency and long wavelengths. While not as strong as ionizing radiation, non-ionizing radiation also has proven health risks if exposure is too frequent,  or prolonged.

Now that we’ve covered the two types of radiation, let’s discuss the two types of non-ionizing EMFs

  1. High frequency (radio frequency or RF): Produced by wireless devices.
  2. Low frequency (ELF): Produced by appliances and electricity.

In other words, we are surrounded by EMFs daily. This doesn’t even account for the cell phone towers around us, many of which are now hidden. It’s alarming, to say the least.

The debate for decades has been whether non-ionizing radiation can cause cancer or contribute to chronic disease. It is a well-researched fact that non-ionizing radiation causes free radical damage. While ionizing radiation directly affects DNA, non-ionizing radiation interferes with oxidative repair mechanisms, resulting in oxidative stress, damage to cellular components (including DNA), and disruption of cellular processes, leading to cancer and other chronic conditions.

The human body is very adaptive and has mechanisms in place to heal from this damage under perfect conditions. However, when our bodies are also dealing with expressed genes, overexposure to toxins, chronic infections, chronic stress, excessive sugar intake, gut issues, poor liver detoxification, imbalanced hormones, poor thyroid function, etc.—and we’re overexposed to EMFs—the body just can't adapt.

People before us have never been exposed to the magnitude of EMFs that we experience today. This is new territory, and we really don’t know what a safe range of exposure is. What we do know is less is better. The goal is to educate on the negative consequences, but also give you action steps to reduce your exposure.

We can never be perfect and EMF free, however, if we can understand this as it relates to overall health, and do the best we can with the the information we have, we can certainly reduce the exposure.

What has been linked to EMF exposure?

  • Cell damage in DNA
  • Cancer (brain tumors, leukemia, breast cancer)
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS)
  • Male infertility
  • Reduced melatonin production
  • Depression and suicide
  • Autism
  • Asthma
  • Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS)
  • Fertility and reproductive health issues
  • Insomnia and sleep problems

Even the environment is being affected, from bees to plants.

How to Lessen Your Exposure

By creating distance between you and the source, you automatically reduce the intensity of EMFs. Cutting back on how often you use or are exposed to EMFs over time also reduces your overall exposure. Shielding yourself is another worthy option, especially with the rampant use of cell phones, laptops, and tablets today.

Here are the top five EMF sources to be aware of:

  • Cell phones
  • Laptops
  • Tablet computers
  • Smart meters
  • Wi-Fi

To lessen your exposure to these five sources and other common appliances/products:

  • Don’t use a microwave.
  • Hardwire your house to avoid constant Wi-Fi EMFs.
  • Don’t live near high-voltage power lines.
  • Live as far as possible from cell phone towers.
  • Avoid electric blankets.
  • Avoid fluorescent lights.
  • Buy newer, more energy-efficient appliances.
  • Avoid dimmer switches on lights.
  • Don’t let power cords cross each other, as this increases radiation.
  • Run extension cords away from furniture, not under it.
  • Switch from electric alarm clocks to battery-powered ones.
  • Put your phone on airplane mode at night.
  • Avoid smart meters. Request a non-RF-emitting meter or place shielding inside the wall where the meter is located.
  • Avoid spring mattresses; switch to foam.
  • Avoid using a baby monitor.
  • Use protective shields for laptops, iPads, tablets, and cell phones.

The 3-Step Approach:

  • Understand how to lessen exposure.
  • Learn ways to block EMFs.
  • Ensure adequate antioxidant intake - These counter free radicals. I test levels via cell nutrition assay so we don't guess.
  • Work on the other causes of chronic disease in conjunction with lowering EMF exposure. It is important, but it is one chapter of many to achieve optimal health and healing.
