Remember the concept -
Inflammation and Metabolic Dysfunction → Free Radicals → Oxidative Stress → DNA and Mitochondria Damage
Chronic infections can have a significant impact on health and are a major contributor to chronic disease and poor well-being. Unlike acute infections, which are short-lived and have a temporary negative effect, chronic infections can persist for a long time, causing continuous inflammation and damage to the body—especially the DNA and mitochondria of the cells.
Chronic infections can also interact with genetic factors to influence health outcomes in chronic diseases such as cancer, autoimmune conditions, neurodegenerative diseases, mental health disorders, and cardiovascular disease.
Most of my patients have multiple chronic infections contributing to their symptoms or their diagnosed chronic diseases. Testing is tailored to the individual needs of each patient. A comprehensive review of the patient’s history and evaluation of symptoms determines which tests should be prioritized.
As I often mention on this site, some lab companies and their testing methods are highly reliable, while others are not. Choosing the right lab is critical for proper diagnosis. Once the results are in, creating an effective treatment plan for these chronic infections is crucial for successful outcomes.
My experience over the last seven years has been invaluable in identifying the best labs and protocols to treat chronic infections. This often involves a thorough integrative approach that combines the conventional medical model with the functional medicine model. A patient may require medications to eliminate the infection, but a functional medicine approach is also necessary to restore the body’s terrain and prevent the infection from returning.
